Mexico City, December 22 – Over three months after a devastating gas tanker explosion at the Puente de la Concordia in Mexico City on September 10, the capital’s government announced yesterday that the total amount of 143 reparation agreements with direct and indirect victims has reached 480 million pesos. The Fiscalía General de Justicia capitalina confirmed that 90% of these payments have already been disbursed.

Significant Progress in Victim Compensation

Bertha María Alcalde Luján, head of the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office, stated in a press conference that approximately 480 million pesos have been committed to reparations, with 429 million pesos already paid. This represents a substantial 90 percent completion rate in compensating those affected by the tragic incident, which claimed 32 lives, including the tanker driver.

The reparation funds, provided by the Transportadora Silza company, have been allocated as follows:

  • 266 million pesos to the families of the deceased victims.
  • 136 million pesos to 63 injured individuals.
  • 27 million pesos for those who suffered other types of damages.

As of now, 127 out of 144 victims have received their corresponding payments, and 143 reparation agreements have been signed between direct and indirect victims, according to Alcalde Luján.

Separate Tragedy: Toluca Plane Crash Claims 10 Lives

In a separate and unrelated incident, a tragic plane crash occurred on December 16 in Toluca, State of Mexico, resulting in the deaths of 10 people, including three minors. The aircraft, a private jet Cessna 650 Citation III with registration XA PRO, was flying from Acapulco when it crashed into a soccer field in the San Pedro Totoltepec delegation, near the “Adolfo López Mateos” International Airport.

Minutes before impact, the crew issued an emergency message to the control tower. The plane ultimately collided with the fence of a mechanical workshop, triggering a powerful explosion. Due to the presence of gas and diesel tanks in the vicinity, authorities evacuated residents within a four-block radius.

The victims were identified as pilot Juan Carlos Olivares, co-pilot Walding Sánchez, and eight passengers, including a family comprising Raúl Gómez Ruiz, Janine Buenfil, Raúl Gómez Buenfil, and three children aged 9, 4, and 2 years old.

The Attorney General’s Office (FGR), in coordination with state authorities, has initiated investigations to determine the mechanical or human causes of the crash.
