Driver Flees After Downing Three Concrete Poles in Ciudad Juárez, Injuring Motorcyclist

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – January 14, 2026 – A driver traveling at excessive speed caused a significant accident on the night of Tuesday, January 13th, in the Fuentes industrial complex of Ciudad Juárez. The driver, who subsequently fled the scene, collided with a concrete pole, leading to a chain reaction that brought down two additional poles and resulted in a motorcyclist sustaining minor injuries.

Details of the Incident

According to initial reports, the incident occurred when the driver of a car, traveling from west to east on Laguna de Tamiahua street, lost control of the vehicle. This happened just before reaching the intersection with Fuentes Norte street. The car veered onto the median and struck a concrete pole, which was immediately toppled. Due to the tension of the overhead cables, two more concrete poles subsequently fell.

Following the impact, the driver of the vehicle abandoned the scene and fled, leaving behind the damaged infrastructure and a hazardous situation.

Motorcyclist Injured by Downed Cables

Shortly after the initial collision, a 17-year-old motorcyclist, who was also traveling in the same direction, attempted to swerve around the fallen pole that was obstructing the road. Unfortunately, the motorcyclist became entangled in the high-tension cables that had come down, suffering minor injuries as a result.

Investigation Underway to Locate Responsible Driver

Agents from the Municipal Public Security Secretariat promptly arrived at the accident site to secure the area. Laguna de Tamiahua street was closed in both directions to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety. In parallel, elements of the Road Safety Coordination have initiated an investigation to identify and locate the driver responsible for the hit-and-run.

Authorities are optimistic about the investigation’s progress, as the area is equipped with video surveillance cameras that may have captured footage of the accident and the fleeing vehicle.

Power Restoration Efforts by CFE

Personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) were dispatched to the scene to assess the damage and commence repairs on the downed concrete poles. Their efforts are focused on restoring electrical power to the affected sector as quickly and safely as possible.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding road safety and the consequences of reckless driving in Ciudad Juárez. Authorities continue to urge motorists to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution on the roads to prevent such occurrences.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
