Mexico City, January 18, 2026 – Four men were arrested on Saturday for assaulting elements of the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) of Mexico City in the Tlalpan borough. The incident, which was recorded and circulated on social media, resulted in two officers being injured and hospitalized.

Traffic Violation Escalates to Assault on Officers

The events unfolded when police officers stopped three motorcyclists who were circulating without helmets on Viaducto at its intersection with Periférico, in the Arenal Tepepan neighborhood. Upon verifying that the motorcyclists lacked the required documentation, officers proceeded to impound the vehicles. It was at this point that a group of delivery drivers approached the scene and began to assault the police.

“The initial stop was for a clear traffic infraction – motorcyclists operating without proper safety equipment. What followed was an unacceptable act of aggression against our officers who were simply performing their duties,” stated a representative from the SSC-CDMX.

Reinforcements Arrive, Four Suspects Detained

With the arrival of additional uniformed officers, authorities managed to detain four individuals, aged 22, 25, 26, and 40. The quick response of the police reinforcements was crucial in containing the situation and apprehending those involved in the assault.

Two officers sustained injuries during the altercation and were subsequently transferred to a hospital for medical attention. Their current condition has not been publicly disclosed, but authorities confirmed they are receiving necessary care.

Social Media Captures the Incident

The incident gained further traction as footage of the confrontation was captured and widely disseminated across social media platforms. This has sparked public discussion regarding respect for authority and the safety of law enforcement officers.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident, and the four detained individuals will face charges related to the assault on police officers. The identities of the arrested individuals have not yet been released.

Ongoing Concerns Regarding Delivery Driver Conduct

This event highlights ongoing concerns in Mexico City regarding the conduct of some delivery drivers, particularly those operating motorcycles, and their adherence to traffic regulations. Authorities have previously emphasized the importance of road safety and respect for traffic laws to ensure the well-being of all citizens.

The SSC-CDMX reiterated its commitment to maintaining order and ensuring the safety of its officers while upholding the law. They also called for cooperation from the public and adherence to regulations to prevent such incidents in the future.
