Mexico City Metro Concludes Maintenance at Ferrería/Arena Ciudad de México Station

Mexico City, January 21 – The Collective Transportation System (STC) Metro of Mexico City has announced the successful completion of extensive maintenance work on the access esplanades of the Ferrería/Arena Ciudad de México station, located on Line 6. This initiative, part of broader rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts, aims to significantly improve user experience and operational efficiency.

The comprehensive overhaul focused on the station’s access points, which serve the route connecting El Rosario to Martín Carrera. These actions were undertaken with the primary goals of enhancing mobility, bolstering safety, and mitigating water infiltration issues caused by concrete wear and cracking. The project encompassed the renovation of approximately 1,200 square meters, directly benefiting the 22,689 daily commuters who utilize the station.

Integral Intervention at the South Access

At the south access, adjacent to the Escuela Superior de Ingeniería Mecánica y Eléctrica (ESIME) Azcapotzalco Unit of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), a thorough intervention was carried out. This included the reconstruction of 340 square meters of the esplanade, which involved the demolition of the existing sidewalk, subsequent leveling, and ground improvement with bentonite application. A 10-centimeter thick slab of ready-mix concrete was then poured to ensure durability.

Detailed Improvements Across Both Accesses

The STC Metro has provided a detailed breakdown of the enhancements implemented for the benefit of the community and station users:

South Access:

  • Total reconstruction of 340 m² of esplanade, improving surface quality and resistance.
  • Demolition of the old sidewalk and re-leveling of the terrain with high-quality materials.
  • Pouring of a 10 cm thick concrete slab for increased durability.
  • Construction of two access ramps for people with disabilities, facilitating mobility towards ESIME Azcapotzalco.
  • Application of safety markings with yellow stripes for enhanced visibility.
  • Replacement of the gray marble cladding on the access staircase, covering an additional 120 m².

North Access:

  • Reconstruction of 720 m² of sidewalk adjacent to the ventilation grille, an area previously affected by water accumulation.
  • Demolition and re-leveling of the area, restoring optimal conditions for pedestrian traffic and surface drainage.
  • Installation of two 5.20-meter high approach steles at each access, improving user orientation and visibility.

The intervention at Ferrería/Arena CDMX station was carried out under the direct instruction of the Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada Molina, who emphasized the importance of optimizing service conditions across the Metro network. Adrián Rubalcava Suárez, General Director of the STC Metro, reiterated the commitment to continue with projects that elevate the quality and safety standards for all users.

These comprehensive actions are expected to strengthen the infrastructure of the Mexico City Metro, ensuring improved mobility and safer conditions for the commuting public. The completion of this project marks another step in the ongoing efforts to modernize and maintain one of the city’s most vital transportation systems.
