Mexico City, January 30, 2026 – The Mixed Fund for Tourism Promotion of Mexico City (FMPT) and Aeromexico have formalized a strategic alliance by signing a Letter of Intent. This collaboration seeks to significantly enhance the promotion of Mexico City as a premier tourist destination, both domestically and globally. The agreement underscores a shared commitment to boosting air connectivity, elevating international visibility, and solidifying Mexico City’s position as a competitive global hub, poised to welcome the world, particularly in anticipation of key upcoming events.

Official Signing Ceremony Highlights Commitment to Growth

The Letter of Intent was officially signed by Carlos Martínez Velázquez, General Director of the Mixed Fund for Tourism Promotion of Mexico City, and Giancarlo Mulinelli, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Aeromexico. Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, Secretary of Tourism of Mexico City, was present as an honor witness, further emphasizing the significance of this partnership for the city’s tourism sector.

This strategic alliance is designed to facilitate joint tourism promotion initiatives, comprehensive positioning campaigns, and synergies in air connectivity. These efforts are expected to collectively contribute to establishing Mexico City as one of the leading tourist and cultural hubs in Iberoamerica. The timing of this collaboration is particularly opportune, coinciding with major international events and the sustained growth of tourism within the capital.

Long-Term Vision for Economic Development and Global Reach

The partnership between FMPT and Aeromexico is rooted in a long-term vision that recognizes tourism as a vital engine for economic development, job creation, and international projection. It reinforces Mexico City’s overarching strategy of forging alliances with key stakeholders in the tourism sector to maximize its global impact and reach.

This agreement comes at a time of increasing air connectivity for Mexico, with Mexico City notably positioned as the most connected city in Iberoamerica. In recent years, the capital has significantly strengthened its network of international flights through the introduction of new strategic routes to and from Mexico City. These include connections to San Juan, Cali, and Punta Cana, effectively expanding its reach across the Caribbean, South America, and other crucial markets.

Preparing for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and Beyond

This expansion further solidifies Mexico City’s status as a major regional and global hub. It is also an integral part of the city’s comprehensive preparations to host the world in 2026, when Mexico City will play a prominent role in the FIFA World Cup 2026. This reinforces its leadership in connectivity, hospitality, and international projection.

The collaboration aims to ensure that Mexico City is not only prepared for such a monumental event but also continues to thrive as a top-tier destination for travelers worldwide, leveraging its rich cultural heritage and modern infrastructure.
