Mexico City, February 1, 2026 – All boroughs of Mexico City are under a cold alert for Monday, February 2, as authorities anticipate minimum temperatures of 1 degree Celsius. The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City has issued a series of recommendations to residents.

Coldest Hours and Affected Areas

The lowest temperatures are expected between 2:00 AM and 8:00 AM on Monday. Commuters are advised to take precautions to avoid sudden temperature changes. The alert categorizes boroughs into two levels:

  • Yellow Alert (minimum temperatures of 4 to 6 degrees Celsius): Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuauhtémoc, Gustavo A. Madero, Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, Miguel Hidalgo, Tláhuac, and Venustiano Carranza.
  • Orange Alert (minimum temperatures of 1 to 3 degrees Celsius): Álvaro Obregón, Cuajimalpa, Magdalena Contreras, Milpa Alta, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco.

The southern parts of Mexico City are projected to be the most affected by these low temperatures, partly due to the passage of Cold Front 32 and its Arctic air mass. This weather phenomenon is also expected to bring snowfall and sleet to areas near the Popocatépetl volcano.

Civil Protection Recommendations

In response to the cold alert, Civil Protection has provided the following recommendations:

  • Ensure proper ventilation if using heaters.
  • Update vaccination schedules for influenza and COVID-19.
  • Use moisturizing cream to keep skin hydrated.
  • Protect children and the elderly from the cold.
  • Dress warmly and cover your nose and mouth.
  • Avoid sudden changes in temperature.
  • Shelter pets and do not leave them outdoors during the coldest hours.
  • Drink water and consume foods rich in vitamins A and C.

Specific Affected Neighborhoods and Additional Weather

Civil Protection has identified some of the neighborhoods expected to experience the coldest temperatures:

  • Ajusco Medio, Tlalpan: 0.7 degrees Celsius.
  • Belvedere Ajusco, Tlalpan: 0.8 degrees Celsius.
  • Santa Anita, Milpa Alta: 1.7 degrees Celsius.
  • Topilejo, Tlalpan: 2.2 degrees Celsius.
  • AICM, Venustiano Carranza: 3 degrees Celsius.

In addition to the freezing temperatures, Mexico City is also expected to experience light rainfall of up to 5 millimeters, according to the National Meteorological Service, throughout Sunday and Monday. However, the afternoon is predicted to be mild and sunny.
