Ciudad Juárez, February 6, 2026 – The Technological University of Ciudad Juárez (UTCJ) officially unveiled a new, fully-equipped ambulance this Friday, marking a significant step in both community service provision and the practical training of its students. The unit is set to bolster emergency services in the underserved southeast sector of the city and will be a crucial tool for students in the Paramedic and Civil Protection programs.
UTCJ Invests in State-of-the-Art Emergency Vehicle
Oscar Ibáñez Hernández, Rector of UTCJ, announced that the university invested 1.6 million pesos in the acquisition of this advanced ambulance. The vehicle boasts cutting-edge equipment, including automated monitors and specialized tools essential for pre-hospital care, ensuring that both the community and students have access to the best available resources.
“Our university is characterized by practical learning. Theory is the foundation, but we place great emphasis on students gaining real-world experience before earning their degrees. Having a functional ambulance where they can practice and provide a service to the community is a major step in their training and in the service the university offers to society,” stated Ibáñez Hernández during the presentation.
Practical Training and Community Impact
During the unveiling event, students from the Paramedic program demonstrated their skills through a simulated response to a cyclist accident. They effectively applied pre-hospital care protocols and safely transferred the simulated injured person to the new ambulance for continued attention, showcasing the immediate benefits of the new equipment for their education.
The ambulance, which will be operated by students from both the Paramedic and Civil Protection programs, is expected to significantly improve emergency service coverage in an area of Ciudad Juárez that has a pressing need for such specialized attention. This initiative not only strengthens academic preparation but also directly addresses a critical community demand.
Current Enrollment and Future Prospects
Currently, the UTCJ enrolls 179 students in its Paramedic program and 215 in the Civil Protection program. The addition of this ambulance will provide these students with invaluable hands-on experience, preparing them for the demanding realities of emergency medical services and disaster response.
