This agreement formalizes the collaboration between both organizations to ensure safe and dignified spaces for those on the front lines of response, as well as for communities requiring immediate housing support after a contingency.
Emergency Accommodation for Responders and Affected Communities
As part of this alliance, Airbnb will facilitate access to temporary, cost-free stays for Mexico City Civil Protection personnel deployed to different regions of the country, as well as for individuals affected by natural disasters. This collaboration builds on previous successful experiences, such as the support provided during the floods and landslides in Veracruz in 2025, when SGIRPC brigade members received free accommodation to continue their relief efforts.
Strengthening Disaster Response in Mexico
Myriam Urzúa, Secretary of the SGIRPC, emphasized that effective emergency response depends on the well-being of first responders. She noted that this alliance ensures adequate conditions for brigade members when they are sent to support affected communities anywhere in the country. Civil Protection brigade members, for their part, acknowledged that having a safe place to rest during emergencies significantly contributes to maintaining the physical and emotional strength necessary to continue supporting the population.
Airbnb’s Humanitarian Work
All stays are provided at no cost to guests and are funded by Airbnb.org. Since its creation in 2020, Airbnb.org has facilitated more than 1.6 million nights of free temporary accommodation, benefiting over 250,000 people in nearly 140 countries worldwide.
Christoph Gorder, Executive Director of Airbnb.org, highlighted that this alliance will allow for quicker action in the face of disasters and direct collaboration with Civil Protection to support local communities when they need it most.
