Mexico City, February 19, 2026 – Police in Mexico City have arrested two men in connection with the robbery of a music representative at a hotel restaurant in the Miguel Hidalgo borough. The incident, which occurred yesterday, February 18, 2026, involved the theft of a laptop from a backpack belonging to the representative of the “Banda Guasaveña.”
Details of the Robbery and Arrest
According to the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC), the victim was dining with Tano Elizalde, brother of the late Valentín Elizalde, and producer Edgar Gerardo Salazar González, when his backpack, containing a laptop, was stolen. One of the suspects, identified as 72-year-old José Luis Martínez, was seen taking the backpack from a chair.
The police action began when officers, on patrol, were alerted by the 41-year-old artistic representative at the intersection of Insurgentes Sur Avenue and José Martí Street in the Escandón neighborhood. The victim, who was staying at a nearby hotel, reported that his backpack and laptop were missing after he noticed a man quickly leaving the restaurant and getting into a black vehicle.
Authorities located the suspect’s vehicle on Agrarismo Street, at its intersection with Viaducto Miguel Alemán. Upon intercepting the car, the driver attempted to assault the complainant, claiming to be an app-based taxi driver. Both the driver and the passenger, who was responsible for the theft, were subsequently arrested.
Suspect’s Criminal History and Ongoing Investigation
Further investigation revealed that the 40-year-old driver had a prior record, including an entry into the Mexico City Penitentiary System in 2017 for attempted aggravated robbery and bribery.
The SSC did not release further details regarding the specific charges or the ongoing legal proceedings against the two individuals. The incident highlights the continued efforts of Mexico City’s police force to combat crime and ensure the safety of its residents and visitors.
The “Banda Guasaveña” is a well-known musical group, and the involvement of Tano Elizalde, a prominent figure in the regional Mexican music scene, has drawn additional attention to the case.
This arrest is part of a broader series of police operations in Mexico City aimed at reducing crime rates and ensuring public safety. The authorities continue to urge citizens to report any suspicious activities to help maintain order and security in the city.
