Mexico City Intensifies Measles Vaccination Efforts with New Macrocenters
Mexico City, February 22 – The Mexico City government has reinforced its preventive strategy against measles by establishing new vaccination macrocenters in various parts of the capital. This measure comes as doses of the SR and SRP vaccines are reported to be out of stock in most hospitals, pharmacies, and specialized vaccination centers, with no precise restocking date.
Chief of Government, Clara Brugada Molina, stated that this initiative seeks to accelerate dose administration and “win the race” against the disease. The modules will operate for 15 days, starting Saturday, February 21, with extended hours from 10 AM to 12 AM, and will be staffed by brigades and health personnel equipped to attend to the population.
Extended Hours and Strategic Locations
“There will be everything necessary for vaccination; we want to beat measles, and the only way is to get vaccinated,” Brugada stated, urging citizens to visit the enabled points. The new macrocenters are strategically located to facilitate public access:
- Gustavo A. Madero: Deportivo Carmen Serdán, IPN Zacatenco Unit parking lot
- Iztapalapa: Utopía Ixtapalcalli, Utopía Santa Cruz Meyehualco
- Benito Juárez: Parque de los Venados
- Cuauhtémoc: Vicinity of the Palacio de Bellas Artes
- Coyoacán: City Hall Center
These locations aim to bring the service closer to the community and strengthen collective protection against measles.
Two Million Dose Target
As of February 21, the capital government reported that 1,379,373 vaccines have been administered, with the goal of reaching 2 million doses in this phase of the campaign. Authorities emphasized that vaccination is primarily aimed at children, considered a priority population, as well as individuals under 49 years of age, to reduce contagion risks and strengthen collective protection.
Brugada reiterated that vaccination is the most effective tool to prevent the spread of measles in the capital. “Please come, we are in the race against measles, and we are going to win,” she insisted.
