Puebla State Government Coordinates Air Transport of Organs for Mexico City Transplants

Puebla, February 25, 2026 – Solidarity took flight from Puebla as the state government, led by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier, coordinated the air transport of two livers to Mexico City. These organs are destined for transplant procedures, offering a new opportunity for life to those in need.

Organ Procurement and Strict Protocols

The two cases involved patients aged 47 and 23, whose organs were procured from high-specialty IMSS Ordinary hospitals in the state capital of Puebla. The procurement was carried out under strict protocols and with the intervention of highly trained medical personnel, ensuring the viability and safety of the organs for transplantation.

Swift Aerial Transfers to Mexico City

The first transfer was made from the Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional (CMN) “General de División Manuel Ávila Camacho” of IMSS San José to Hospital Ángeles Lomas in Mexico City. This operation was meticulously planned to guarantee that the organ arrived in optimal condition for implantation, minimizing the time between procurement and transplant.

The second operation involved transporting an organ from the Unidad Médica de Alta Especialidad (UMAE) Hospital de Traumatología y Ortopedia of IMSS Puebla to the Centro Médico Nacional La Raza, also located in Mexico City. The efficiency of these operations is crucial for the success of organ transplants, as the viability of organs is time-sensitive.

SUMA Ensures Rapid Transport

In both instances, the transfers were executed by the Advanced Medical Urgency System (SUMA), which successfully completed both operations within an average time of half an hour. This rapid response capability highlights the advanced coordination and logistical prowess of the state’s medical emergency services, ensuring that critical organs reach their destinations swiftly and safely.

Commitment to Life and Organ Donation

Through these actions, the Government of the State of Puebla reaffirms its unwavering commitment to life and to fostering a culture of organ donation. The state government also extends its profound gratitude and recognition to the altruistic gesture of the donor families, whose selflessness made these life-saving opportunities possible for those who desperately need them.

This initiative underscores the importance of inter-state cooperation and the dedication of medical and governmental bodies in facilitating complex logistical operations for the benefit of public health. The successful coordination of these air transports not only saves lives but also inspires hope and encourages further participation in organ donation programs, which are vital for addressing the growing demand for transplants.

The state government continues to promote awareness campaigns and educational programs to highlight the critical need for organ donors and to inform the public about the positive impact of organ donation on individuals and communities. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen the healthcare system and improve the quality of life for all citizens in Puebla and beyond.
