Iztapalapa Mayor Presents Initiative to Reform Interculturality Law in Mexico City Congress
Mexico City, March 2, 2026 – The Mayor of Iztapalapa, Aleida Alavez Ruiz, presented an initiative to the President of the Board of Directors of the Mexico City Congress, Deputy Jesús Sesma Suárez, on February 26. The initiative seeks to reform, add, and repeal various provisions of the Law of Interculturality, Migrants, and Human Mobility of the Federal District.
The public servant met with Deputy Sesma Suárez, who is also a legislator for the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico (PVEM), and Deputies Xóchitl Bravo Espinosa, Coordinator of the MORENA Parliamentary Group, and Jannete Elizabeth Guerrero Maya, a member of the Labor Party (PT) Caucus. The meeting took place at the Legislative Precinct of Donceles.

During the meeting, Deputy Sesma Suárez expressed his commitment to the initiative. “Today (February 26), the Mayor delivers this initiative to us. Thank you for the trust that we will do what we have to do so that it comes out soon. That is our commitment,” he stated in the gathering held in the “Benita Galeana” Hall.

“Having this concept present helps to pacify coexistence in communities; to recognize ourselves in diversity; to assume that we are different; that many cultures can arrive in a single territory and coexist without prejudging each other,” Alavez Ruiz concluded, underscoring the importance of interculturality in fostering peaceful and harmonious communities.
