Ciudad Juárez Modernizes Libraries with Virtual Reality and New Technology

Ciudad Juárez, March 7, 2026 – The Municipal Government of Ciudad Juárez has initiated a significant project to modernize and equip several public libraries across the city. This ambitious undertaking aims to transform these traditional spaces into dynamic learning environments by incorporating new computers, updated book collections, specialized furniture, and advanced interactive technological tools. The initiative seeks to enhance access to knowledge and adapt the libraries to contemporary educational needs.

The modernization efforts commenced at the library located in the Oratorio San Juan Bosco and are slated to expand to other key locations, including the Felipe Ángeles, Emiliano Zapata, Francisco I. Madero, and Arturo Tolentino libraries. These facilities are primarily situated in the northern part of the city, ensuring broad community access to the upgraded resources.

Innovative Technology for Enhanced Learning

Guillermo Alvídrez Olivas, the Director of Education, confirmed that the installation of new furniture and equipment, acquired through projects launched last year, is already underway. He emphasized the primary goal of these upgrades: to modernize the consultation centers and align them with new methods of knowledge acquisition. A standout feature of this project is the integration of virtual reality (VR) headsets and interactive television screens. These tools are expected to offer children and young people unique educational experiences that go beyond traditional learning approaches.

In addition to VR and interactive screens, the libraries are being outfitted with cameras and other technological devices to complement their services. This comprehensive technological upgrade is intended to position the libraries as modern learning hubs and gateways to new technologies, fostering an environment conducive to exploration and discovery.

Phased Implementation and Investment

The municipal government’s objective is to intervene in approximately 13 to 15 municipal libraries, with the exact number depending on the dimensions and specific needs of each facility. The overarching aim is to ensure that all participating libraries receive updated equipment and improved conditions for students and the general public engaging in homework, research, or educational activities.

Alvídrez Olivas detailed that the original project envisioned an investment of nearly 12 million pesos for infrastructure and equipment. However, the current phase is focusing specifically on equipment, with an approximate investment of 4 million pesos. This allocation covers the procurement of new computers, modern furniture, interactive screens, virtual reality headsets, and other essential technological devices.

Impact on the Community

This modernization initiative is expected to have a profound impact on the educational landscape of Ciudad Juárez. By providing state-of-the-art resources and interactive learning tools, the city aims to bridge the digital divide and offer its residents, particularly students, enhanced opportunities for academic and personal development. The integration of advanced technology is anticipated to make learning more engaging and accessible, preparing the next generation for the challenges of a rapidly evolving digital world.

The project underscores the municipal government’s commitment to investing in education and fostering a culture of lifelong learning. As the modernization progresses, more communities across Ciudad Juárez will gain access to these revitalized spaces, further solidifying the libraries’ role as vital community assets.
