Mexico City to Host Record-Breaking Football Class in Zócalo

Mexico City, March 10 – Mexico City is set to make history on March 15 by attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest football class. The event, which is part of the activities leading up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, will transform the iconic Zócalo into a massive football field for an anticipated 10,000 participants.

The initiative, organized by the Mexico City Sports Institute (INDEPORTE), aims to bring together thousands of people for a collective training session lasting approximately 35 minutes. Participants will engage in various football drills and exercises.

Event Details and Participation Requirements

Access for registered participants will be between 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM, with the class officially kicking off at 10:00 AM. To participate, individuals must register in advance and meet specific requirements, including attending at least two in-person training sessions organized by INDEPORTE.

The call for participants is open to individuals aged 12 and above, and registration will remain open until the approximate quota of 10,000 attendees is filled.

The event has garnered significant attention, with the Mexican Secretariat of Tourism (SECTUR México) actively promoting it on social media, urging potential participants to register and be part of this historic moment. A tweet from SECTUR México on March 4, 2026, encouraged people to “Still have time to be part of the Largest Football Class in the World! Register, train and live this historic moment with thousands of people.”

A Step Towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup

This ambitious undertaking underscores Mexico City’s commitment to promoting sports and active lifestyles, especially in the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which Mexico will co-host. The event is expected to generate significant public interest and showcase the city’s enthusiasm for football.

Organizers are optimistic about achieving the Guinness World Record, highlighting the meticulous planning and extensive outreach efforts to ensure a successful and well-attended event. The massive turnout is anticipated to create a vibrant atmosphere in the heart of Mexico City, turning the Zócalo into a symbol of unity and sporting spirit.

Further details regarding registration and training sessions can be found on the official website of the Mexico City Sports Institute.
