Mexico City, March 14 – The Mexico City Congress, through its Cultural Rights Commission, announced on Friday the list of nine individuals who will receive the “Medal of Merit in the Arts.” A solemn ceremony will be held at the Legislative Precinct of Donceles to bestow this prestigious award.
Cultural Rights Commission Approves Laureates
During the Ninth Ordinary Session of the Cultural Rights Commission, held remotely, members approved the resolution identifying the recipients. These individuals were selected for their creative work and distinguished careers, aligning with the nine categories outlined in the official call for nominations.
Deputy Rebeca Peralta León, President of the Cultural Rights Commission, emphasized that all artists and cultural promoters, whether working in independent spaces, schools, communities, or major venues, contribute significantly to the cultural fabric of Mexico City. Their dedication, she stated, is crucial in preserving the city’s vibrant identity.
“Sometimes we forget that behind every artistic expression there are stories of effort, discipline, and profound conviction. These are people who have decided to dedicate their lives to creation, to present our traditions, or to open new paths for future generations,” commented the legislator from the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM).
Recognizing Dedication and Impact
The award, Deputy Peralta León noted, serves as a gesture of gratitude to those who have transformed culture into a means of encounter and transformation. It acknowledges their unwavering commitment to enriching the city’s artistic landscape.
Deputy Raúl de Jesús Torres Guerrero requested the inclusion of David Martínez Flores in the “Audiovisual Media” category. Martínez Flores is one of the few Mexicans serving on the BAFTA Awards Council in London, an equivalent to the Oscars in Los Angeles. This inclusion, Deputy Torres Guerrero argued, aims to further incentivize the national film industry.
