In a statement, the SSC explained that officers were patrolling a street in the Niños Héroes de Chapultepec neighborhood, in the Benito Juárez district, when a citizen asked for their help.
Modus Operandi: Ambush Before Reaching the Historic Center
The man told police that he had arrived from the state of Guerrero to deliver the silver pieces to a jewelry store located in the Historic Center of the capital. However, four individuals intercepted him and robbed him of the merchandise.
The complainant stated that the subjects threatened him with a knife and snatched a suitcase containing the pieces.
Taxi Pursuit, Capture, and Recovery of the Loot
Subsequently, the subjects fled in a vehicle, after which the victim requested a taxi and followed them to the location where he sought the assistance of the officers and pointed out the individuals a few meters ahead.
The SSC indicated that police arrested the alleged perpetrators and, upon searching them, found two phones, cash, a knife, and a suitcase containing the 739 pieces of silver jewelry, with an approximate value of 400,000 pesos ($22,300), which the victim recognized as his property.
Following this, the officers arrested the men, aged 52, 48, 43, and 24, who identified themselves as Colombian citizens, and who were informed of their rights.
The four men and the silver pieces were placed at the disposal of the authorities for investigation of the case.
