Fifth ‘Race of Mercy’ Announced in Ciudad Juarez, Dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi
Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico – The parish of El Señor de la Misericordia has unveiled the details for the fifth edition of the “Race of Mercy,” an event that this year not only commemorates the Jubilee Year-a special period in the Catholic Church promoting joy and spiritual renewal, marked by the opening of the Holy Door in the Basilica of Rome-but is also dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi.
The race is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2026, beginning promptly at 7:30 AM. Participants will have the option to compete in either a 4-kilometer or an 8-kilometer course. The routes will take runners through prominent local thoroughfares, including Simona Barba Street, one lane of Tecnológico Avenue, Aguirre Laredo Street, and Valentín Fuentes Varela Avenue. Traffic safety will be meticulously managed and supervised by agents from the Vial Security department to ensure the well-being of all participants.
A Tribute to St. Francis of Assisi
This year’s dedication to St. Francis of Assisi is particularly significant. The Italian friar and founder of the Franciscan Order is celebrated for his renunciation of a life of wealth in favor of poverty, humility, and service to the needy. He is also widely recognized as the patron saint of animals and the environment, themes that resonate with the spirit of community and care promoted by the ‘Race of Mercy’.
