Mexico City is bracing for a week of diverse weather conditions, characterized by persistent afternoon heat, intermittent rain and thunderstorms, and significant wind gusts. Temperatures are expected to climb above 26°C during the afternoons, while rain and storms are forecast for several days, alongside winds that could exceed 50 kilometers per hour.

Afternoon Heat and Scattered Showers Expected

Throughout the week, the capital will experience warm afternoons, with maximum temperatures ranging between 22°C and 24°C, and some areas potentially seeing even higher values. The probability of afternoon rain and isolated thunderstorms will return, particularly on Monday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday.

On Monday, scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. This precipitation is influenced by a low-pressure trough over central Mexico, combined with local atmospheric conditions. The southern and western boroughs are more likely to experience rain, with a greater than 60% chance in areas such as Tlalpan, Cuajimalpa, Álvaro Obregón, Magdalena Contreras, Xochimilco, and Milpa Alta. Other areas will have a probability below 50%.

Strong Winds to Affect the City

In addition to the heat and rain, strong wind gusts are a notable feature of this week’s forecast. While afternoon wind gusts will generally remain between 25 and 35 kilometers per hour, Friday and Saturday are expected to be the windiest days, with gusts potentially exceeding 50 kilometers per hour. Alerts for strong winds in the capital are not ruled out.

The strongest gusts are anticipated during the afternoon and evening. Boroughs like Gustavo Madero and Azcapotzalco, as well as higher elevation areas of the city, could experience the most intense winds. Residents are advised to secure lightweight objects, as billboards and trees could be affected.

Temperature Outlook for the Week

Morning temperatures will remain relatively stable throughout the week. Minimums are forecast to be between 9°C and 11°C in the central, northern, and eastern boroughs. In the southern and western areas, temperatures will hover between 7°C and 9°C, dropping lower in higher elevations.

Afternoon maximums will range from 23°C to 25°C in Gustavo Madero, Azcapotzalco, Miguel Hidalgo, Venustiano Carranza, Cuauhtémoc, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Tláhuac, Iztapalapa, and Iztacalco. The rest of the city will see temperatures around 23°C, with the exception of the higher areas of Tlalpan, where it will be below 20°C.

By Saturday, the maximum temperature is expected to rise to 26°C. Central and eastern boroughs, such as Cuauhtémoc and Venustiano Carranza, could even register isolated values around 27°C. In the mountainous southern and western regions, temperatures will remain below 22°C.

Morning Fog Continues

Between dawn and the early morning hours, fog banks and mist are expected, particularly in the mountainous areas of the city and in the Gustavo Madero borough. Visibility could drop below 0.5 kilometers. Drivers are urged to exercise caution. Dense fog banks typically dissipate between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. If visibility is severely reduced, it is advisable to wait until conditions improve before driving.
