Ciudad Juárez, March 24, 2026 – The cost of fuel in Ciudad Juárez has experienced a slight increase since the beginning of the month, as reported by the National Organization of Petroleum Retailers (ONEXPO) to El Heraldo de Juárez. This adjustment, amounting to 80 cents per liter, was implemented on March 7.
Magna Gasoline Stays Below 19 Pesos Despite Increase
Despite the 80-cent hike, prices for Magna gasoline per liter are generally holding between $18.85 and $18.99 pesos. This keeps the cost largely below the 19-peso mark, according to various service station attendants. Some stations, particularly those on División del Norte and Ignacio Alatorre avenues, are even offering Magna at a lower price of $17.99 pesos per liter.
For Premium gasoline, the price per liter ranges from $22.64 to $22.99 pesos, and has not yet exceeded $23 pesos, even after the announced increase. Station attendants suggest that further increases might occur in the coming weeks, though this has not happened to date.
Comparison with El Paso and Chihuahua City
In contrast, El Paso, Texas, reports an average gasoline price of $3.70 per gallon, which translates to approximately 16 pesos per liter, making fuel considerably cheaper across the border. Meanwhile, in Chihuahua City, the state capital, gasoline prices were hovering around $24.99 pesos per liter as of Tuesday afternoon, a figure comparable to prices in central and southern Mexico, where costs can exceed 25 pesos.
Context of Fuel Price Fluctuations
This local increase in Ciudad Juárez comes amidst broader discussions about fuel costs. Recent reports have highlighted the potential impact of geopolitical conflicts, such as those involving the U.S. and Iran, on gasoline prices in border regions. However, a fiscal stimulus for gasoline has been maintained in Juárez, helping to keep prices below the 19-peso threshold for Magna.
Local Economic and Social Impact
The stability of gasoline prices, even with minor adjustments, is crucial for Ciudad Juárez residents, many of whom commute or rely on personal vehicles for daily activities. The economic landscape of the city is also influenced by cross-border commerce, where fuel price disparities can affect consumer choices and business operations.
Local authorities and organizations continue to monitor these fluctuations closely, as they have a direct bearing on household budgets and the overall cost of living. The current situation reflects a delicate balance between market forces, governmental policies, and regional economic dynamics.
This development is part of an ongoing trend of price adjustments in the energy sector, which is subject to various national and international factors. Consumers are advised to stay informed about these changes, particularly given the proximity to the U.S. border and the varying prices in neighboring areas.
The National Organization of Petroleum Retailers (ONEXPO) continues to be a key source of information regarding these price changes, providing transparency to the public and stakeholders in the fuel distribution sector.
