Infonavit Grants Free Mortgage Cancellations to Over 500 Juárez Families

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, March 29, 2026 – More than 500 residents of Ciudad Juárez have benefited from the free cancellation of their mortgages by the National Housing Fund Institute for Workers (Infonavit). This significant event, held at the December 8th Stadium, was led by Municipal President Cruz Pérez Cuéllar and aims to bolster the patrimonial security of Juárez families.

The cancellation of an Infonavit mortgage is the final step in releasing a property after the credit has been fully paid, ensuring its legal ownership. President Pérez Cuéllar highlighted that this process represents an approximate saving of 15,000 pesos per family. More importantly, it closes legal procedures that, if left pending, could lead to future complications regarding home ownership.

Federal Government’s Support for Social Housing

Pérez Cuéllar emphasized that significant progress in social housing across the country, particularly in Ciudad Juárez, is being achieved thanks to the impetus from the Federal Government, led by President Claudia Sheinbaum, and coordinated efforts with Infonavit.

“Having a home free of burdens is not only a financial achievement; it is also an act of social justice. It means that this home remains as an inheritance, as a refuge, and as a starting point for new family goals,” he stated.

Infonavit’s Human-Centered Housing Policy

The municipal president also underscored the implementation of the Infonavit Integral Solution program. This initiative allows families to restructure or liquidate their credits in accordance with their economic realities, reflecting a human-centered housing policy. He also promoted the National Housing Registry for Well-being, which seeks to expand access to dignified housing.

In this regard, the municipality has contributed by donating 5.4 hectares for the construction of over 700 homes in coordination with Infonavit. Additional projects are also planned with the National Housing Commission, further expanding options for both Infonavit beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries.

Impact on Juárez Residents

The free mortgage cancellations provide substantial financial relief and legal certainty to hundreds of families in Ciudad Juárez. This initiative not only alleviates financial burdens but also ensures that these properties can be passed down through generations without legal encumbrances. The program underscores a commitment to improving the quality of life and fostering economic stability for working families in the region.

Future Housing Initiatives

The collaboration between the municipal government and Infonavit is expected to continue, with further plans to address housing needs in Ciudad Juárez. The donation of land for new housing developments signifies a proactive approach to expanding access to affordable and dignified housing, benefiting a broader segment of the population.

These efforts are part of a broader national strategy to tackle housing shortages and ensure that more Mexican families can achieve homeownership. The focus on human-centered policies and financial relief programs highlights a commitment to social welfare and economic empowerment.

The event concluded with a strong message of continued support for housing initiatives, reinforcing the idea that a secure home is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of family well-being.
