Juárez Fortifies Measles Defense: Over 359,000 Immunized
Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – April 1, 2026 – Ciudad Juárez is a pivotal location in the state’s measles prevention strategy, with more than 359,000 individuals immunized against the disease. This significant achievement underscores the ongoing efforts to protect the population from potential outbreaks.
According to data from the Applied Dose Registry (RDA), 292,796 vaccines were administered in this border city during 2025. An additional 66,392 doses have been supplied so far in 2026, bringing the cumulative total to 359,188 applications in the locality.
Coordinated Efforts by State Health Secretariat
These actions are part of a comprehensive initiative led by the State Health Secretariat, which has intensified brigades, community campaigns, and coordinated strategies. The focus has been particularly on regions with high population mobility, such as Juárez, to ensure maximum coverage and effectiveness.
At the state level, the dependency reported that a total of 1,312,868 measles vaccines have been administered between 2025 and March 31, 2026. This includes:
- 25,508 doses for children aged 6 to 11 months.
- 361,299 doses for children aged 1 to 9 years.
- 925,061 doses for individuals aged 10 to 49 years.
Health authorities have consistently emphasized that vaccination remains the most effective tool for preventing measles. They have urged the public to complete vaccination schedules, especially for minors and vulnerable groups, to maintain high levels of community immunity.
Increased Risk During Vacation Season
Authorities have also highlighted that the vacation season elevates the risk of measles contagion in border areas due to increased mobility. This factor further stresses the importance of widespread vaccination and vigilance among the population.
In response to these concerns, the Health Sector has been reinforcing vaccination efforts to curb infections in Ciudad Juárez. These measures are crucial in mitigating the spread of the virus, particularly in a city with dynamic cross-border movement.
Community Engagement and Future Health Initiatives
Beyond measles vaccination, Ciudad Juárez is actively involved in broader health initiatives. The state government and the Rotary Club of Ciudad Juárez are organizing a Health Fair on April 12, offering approximately 28 free medical services, including consultations, vaccinations, and various studies for the community.
These ongoing efforts demonstrate a sustained commitment to public health in Ciudad Juárez, aiming to create a healthier and more resilient community through proactive prevention and comprehensive healthcare services.
