Authorities Reinforce Order and Revitalization in Mexico City’s Historic Center
Mexico City, April 3, 2026 – The Historic Center Authority continues its efforts to recover, revitalize, and improve the capital’s main square, in line with the strategy promoted by the Head of Government, Clara Brugada Molina. This initiative focuses on the ordering and strengthening of public spaces.
Coordinated Operations for Public Order
During the past week, an operation was carried out in the streets of Meave, Correo Mayor, República de Colombia, and San Ildefonso, with the aim of clearing public roads. This operation was implemented in coordination with the Undersecretariat of Traffic Control, the Auxiliary Police, and personnel from various areas of the capital government, including the Secretariat of Works and Services, the Secretariat of Citizen Security, and social areas of the local government.
According to the official report, 20 motorcycles were impounded, 15 infractions were issued to vehicles with Mexico City license plates, six guarantees were issued for foreign vehicles, and 20 items were seized for irregular occupation of public space.
Urban Cleaning and Maintenance Initiatives
In addition, cleaning and sanitization tasks were carried out on thoroughfares such as Eje Central, José María Izazaga, and Vizcaínas, as well as on Meave Street, at its intersections with República de Cuba and República de Perú.
A permanent urban maintenance program is also being sustained in areas such as Academia, Jardín Allende, Plaza Santa Veracruz, Plaza Juan José Baz, Plaza Tlaxcoaque, and República de Cuba. These efforts include watering green areas in streets like República de Perú, Jesús María, and Emiliano Zapata, and the removal of graffiti in República de Chile.
Social and Cultural Engagement
In the social sphere, the “Tlacuaches” Chess Club, in coordination with PILARES, provided classes to children from the Fundación Renacimiento, aiming to foster cognitive skills and the habit of reading.
As part of the cultural offerings, the start of the free singing and choir workshop “Sinfonía de Barrio” was announced. It will be held at the Cultural Center of the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Finally, on April 11, at 12:00 PM, the meeting “Alleys of the Historic Center. Between equations and chords” will take place, with the participation of academic institutions such as UNAM, IPN, and UAEM.
Ongoing Challenges and Future Outlook
Authorities indicated that these actions are part of a comprehensive strategy to improve conditions in the Historic Center. However, the ordering of public space and continuous maintenance remain challenges in the area.
These efforts are crucial for the continued revitalization of one of Mexico City’s most iconic and historically significant areas, aiming to create a more organized and enjoyable environment for both residents and visitors.
