Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico – The Secretary of Health has reported a significant increase in measles cases in Ciudad Juárez, with a total of 155 infections recorded since monitoring commenced in 2025. In the current year, 2026, there have already been 32 new cases, representing a substantial 57 percent of the total incidence across the state of Chihuahua.
Statewide Measles Situation and Fatalities
As of Monday, March 30, the technical measles report indicated a total of 4,551 cases across the entire entity, with 21 fatalities attributed to the disease. The concentration of cases in Ciudad Juárez highlights a critical public health concern for the region.
Juárez Accounts for Over Half of State’s Cases
Dr. Rogelio Covarrubias, director of the Juárez Health District, emphasized that Ciudad Juárez is responsible for more than half of the current year’s infections in Chihuahua. He further noted that a majority of these cases involve individuals in their productive years who lack a history of vaccination.
“We have 56 cases of measles in the state, of which 32 are in Juárez. This represents 57 percent of the total cases reported in the state this year. This is more serious than we initially thought,” stated Dr. Covarrubias.
