Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua – A new initiative seeks to rescue and digitalize historical archives of Ciudad Juárez. The call, aimed at the community, invites residents to contribute old printed materials to preserve the city’s memory. This project, part of the “Hemerotecas y archivos necesarios para historiar el siglo XX juarense” program, is spearheaded by the Chihuahua State Secretary of Culture’s EKA 2025 program.

Community Invited to Contribute Historical Documents

The initiative encourages citizens to share printed materials from Ciudad Juárez published before the year 2000. These materials can cover a wide range of topics, including social, educational, cultural, sports, artistic, commercial, religious, or political subjects. Participants can contribute by allowing their documents to be photographed or scanned, thus helping to build a digital historical archive for the locality.

“Before time erases the letters, we want to rescue the old magazines and brochures that tell us what our Juárez of yesterday was like,” highlights the invitation. This effort aims to prevent valuable testimonial documents from fading into oblivion.

Incentives for Participation

Beyond the cultural value, the project offers economic incentives for participants. Cash prizes will be awarded: 15,000 pesos for first place, 10,000 pesos for second place, and 5,000 pesos for third place. This encourages broader community involvement in safeguarding the city’s heritage.

Project Background and Goals

The “Hemerotecas y archivos necesarios para historiar el siglo XX juarense” project is a crucial step in preserving the historical narrative of Ciudad Juárez. It aims to create a comprehensive digital repository that will be accessible for future generations, researchers, and the general public. By digitalizing these documents, the project ensures their longevity and protects them from physical deterioration.
