Ciudad Juarez Business Leaders Warn Against Blockades, Citing Economic Impact

Ciudad Juarez, April 5, 2026 – Representatives from Ciudad Juarez’s private sector have issued a public statement expressing their strong opposition to potential blockades, warning that such actions could severely impact the city’s economy and daily operations. While acknowledging the legitimacy of the causes championed by farmers and transporters, business leaders emphasized that protests should not disrupt the economic functioning of the city.

The organizations conveyed their respect for social demands but underscored that these should not translate into measures that harm other productive sectors or the general public. They highlighted Ciudad Juarez’s high dependence on a continuous flow of essential goods, including food, fuel, medical supplies, and basic necessities, to maintain its daily operations.

Economic Repercussions of Blockades

Blocking international crossings and major communication routes would directly affect the entire community, not just businesses, due to the city’s reliance on the constant movement of goods. Business leaders warned that interrupting these access points could lead to immediate consequences, such as risks to the supply of basic products and direct impacts on thousands of jobs across various sectors.

Furthermore, they alerted to the economic impact on families, a loss of the city’s competitiveness, and potential long-term repercussions stemming from interruptions in international supply chains. The statement also pointed out that such blockades could result in contractual penalties, a loss of trust from global clients, and the eventual relocation of operations to other regions or borders.

Negative Message to Investment Environment

Another critical point raised was the negative message this sends to the investment environment, potentially hindering the arrival of new projects and limiting the expansion of established companies. They cautioned that uncertainty in logistical operations could influence strategic decisions that exclude Ciudad Juarez as a competitive destination in the medium and long term.

In light of this scenario, the business sector respectfully urged a reconsideration of any actions involving the blocking of access points. They reiterated their support for social causes while reaffirming their commitment to defending economic activity.

Call for Dialogue and Rule of Law

The signatory organizations ultimately called upon authorities at all three levels of government to address demands through dialogue and the rule of law. They reaffirmed their determination to act unitedly to ensure free transit and regional stability.
