Monument Conservation Training to be Held in Ciudad Juárez
Ciudad Juárez, April 7, 2026 – Ciudad Juárez is set to host a specialized training course this Wednesday aimed at enhancing the conservation and preservation of the city’s cultural heritage. The initiative, spearheaded by the Institute for Culture of Juárez (IPACULT), will provide theoretical and practical tools for the proper cleaning and maintenance of monuments, ensuring interventions do not damage their materials or integrity.
Collaboration for Cultural Preservation
Ogla Liset Olivas, head of the General Directorate of IPACULT, emphasized that this training is a result of collaborative efforts, including significant contributions from the business sector. “When wills come together, concrete and positive actions are generated for our city,” Olivas stated, acknowledging the support from Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar for strengthening culture and dignifying the urban environment.
The training addresses a recent public survey where residents expressed a strong need for attention and conservation of the city’s historical patrimony. Olivas highlighted the importance of raising awareness about the value of monuments, noting that their care represents the preservation of history, identity, and a sense of belonging for citizens.
Expert-Led Workshop and Business Contributions
The course will take place at 9:30 AM at the Municipal Institute of Research and Planning (IMIP) and will be led by architect and master in monument restoration, Alejandra Isabel Gutiérrez de Seda. Gutiérrez de Seda brings expertise from her art training in Florence, Italy, ensuring high-quality instruction for participants.
Local Verification Centers have played a crucial role in funding this initiative, contributing 20,000 pesos to cover the certification costs. These centers have also expressed interest in continuing to support future monument improvement projects, including the monument to Vicente Guerrero.
Ensuring Proper Intervention Techniques
César Díaz Gutiérrez, Director General of Ecology, underscored the necessity of conducting monument restoration work with technical knowledge to prevent damage. “It is fundamental that these works are carried out properly, with technical knowledge to avoid damage to the patrimony. Therefore, this training is key before starting any intervention process,” Díaz Gutiérrez commented.
The training program is designed to equip personnel from various municipal dependencies and private individuals with the skills needed to undertake correct interventions, safeguarding the historical and artistic value of Ciudad Juárez’s monuments. This proactive approach aims to ensure that future restoration efforts are both effective and respectful of the city’s rich cultural legacy.
Broader Context of Heritage Preservation
This training is part of a broader effort in Ciudad Juárez to revitalize and protect its historical sites. Recent related initiatives include proposals for a tourist corridor in the Historic Center to boost the economy, rehabilitation of chessboards at the Benito Juárez monument, and plans for the restoration of nine other monuments across the city. These efforts collectively demonstrate a growing commitment to cultural preservation and urban enhancement in Ciudad Juárez.
