Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua – Two men were found dead on the Jerónimo-Santa Teresa highway in Ciudad Juárez on Thursday morning, April 9, 2026. The discovery triggered a rapid response from various security agencies, including the Municipal Police, Mexican Army, and National Guard, who secured the scene for investigation.

Discovery and Initial Reports

The bodies were located near kilometer 2 of the highway, just after descending the bridge that crosses Highway 45 in the direction of Samalayuca. Initial reports indicate that both victims were men. One of them reportedly sustained a ‘coup de grâce’ wound, a detail that strongly suggests a premeditated homicide.

Law Enforcement Response and Investigation

Upon arrival, municipal police, along with elements of the Mexican Army and National Guard, cordoned off the area to preserve the crime scene. This immediate action is crucial for preventing contamination and ensuring that all potential evidence is secured for forensic analysis.

Subsequently, personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office took over the evidence collection process. They also ordered the transfer of the bodies to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo) facilities. At Semefo, detailed examinations will be conducted to officially identify the victims and determine the precise causes of their deaths.

Ongoing Investigation and Lack of Arrests

As of now, authorities have not reported any arrests in connection with this double homicide. The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officials working to gather more information and identify those responsible for the deaths. The lack of immediate arrests highlights the complexity of the case and the challenges faced by investigators in tracking down perpetrators.

Context of Insecurity in Chihuahua

This incident adds to a broader pattern of insecurity observed in the state of Chihuahua, particularly in Ciudad Juárez. Such events underscore the ongoing challenges faced by local authorities in maintaining public safety and combating violent crime. The community awaits further updates from the investigation, hoping for swift justice and increased security measures.
