Santa Fe and San Ángel Prepare to Welcome World Cup 2026 Visitors
Mexico City, April 16, 2026 – The western districts of Santa Fe and San Ángel in Mexico City are set to become prominent tourist hubs during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The mayors of Álvaro Obregón, Javier López Casarín, and Cuajimalpa, Carlos Orvañanos Rea, unveiled a comprehensive plan aimed at attracting visitors arriving for the five World Cup matches scheduled in the city.
The initiative, planned a year in advance, seeks to capitalize on the significant influx of tourists expected in the region. Cuajimalpa alone boasts 15 hotels and over a thousand temporary accommodations via platforms like Airbnb and Booking, indicating a substantial capacity to host international guests.
“Pasaporte Turístico ÁO” App Launched for Tourists
As part of this strategy, the Álvaro Obregón district has developed a mobile application named “Pasaporte Turístico ÁO” (ÁO Tourist Passport). This free application will serve as an essential guide for visitors, connecting them with local restaurants, cultural events, museums, parks, and emergency services, particularly in the Santa Fe and San Ángel areas.
In addition to the app, information modules will be set up in Santa Fe and San Ángel, staffed by young volunteers from the High-Level University Cluster. The districts are also promoting the SUSTENT ÁO distinctive, designed to strengthen micro, small, and medium-sized businesses that adopt sustainable practices.
Enhanced Security and Collaboration with Private Sector
Security is a paramount concern for both administrations. Mayors Casarín and Orvañanos Rea assured that a robust security deployment will be in place, involving elements from the National Guard, tourist police, capital police, and private security organizations across both territories.
“The strategy includes a joint deployment that also involves the private initiative, with the objective of guaranteeing conditions of tranquility for both residents and tourists,” stated the Álvaro Obregón administration.
Comprehensive Committees for a Seamless Experience
To ensure a well-organized and high-quality experience for both visitors and residents, the Álvaro Obregón district has formed 10 specialized committees. These committees are dedicated to various aspects, including tourism, infrastructure, mobility, security, innovation, culture, sports, and verification, working continuously in preparation for the World Cup.
The tourism industry anticipates an additional 836,000 visitors due to the 2026 World Cup, making these local initiatives crucial for Mexico City to maximize the economic and cultural benefits of hosting such a global event.
The collaborative effort between the two districts and the integration of technology and security measures aim to create a welcoming and enjoyable environment for all who visit Mexico City during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
