The Children’s Festival 2026 is set to bring a day of learning and fun to Mexico City’s youngsters. Organized by the CDMX Ministry of Culture and the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), the event aims to engage children with science through interactive workshops and activities, all free of charge.

Event Details: Date, Time, and Location

The festival will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, starting at 5:00 PM. The venue is the Luis Enrique Erro Planetarium at IPN, located at Av. Wilfrido Massieu 394, Nueva Industrial Vallejo, Gustavo A. Madero, CDMX. The planetarium is conveniently accessible via the Politécnico (Line 5) or Instituto del Petróleo (Line 6) Metro stations.

While the event is free, space for some activities is limited, so early arrival is recommended to ensure participation.

Featured Activities and Workshops

The festival boasts a diverse program designed to entertain and educate children of all ages. Here’s a breakdown of the key activities:

Science and Exploration:

  • The Magic of Chemistry and Colors: Discover the characteristic colors of chemical elements. This activity will be held in the planetarium esplanade from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a capacity of 80 people.
  • Lunar Craters: Explore and learn about the formation of craters on the Moon and other celestial bodies. Located in the planetarium esplanade from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a capacity of 20 people every 30 minutes.
  • Barbie STEM: Learn about scientific projects and money management through Barbie’s initiatives, in collaboration with the National School of Biological Sciences. This workshop will be in the planetarium esplanade from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a capacity of 10 people every 30 minutes.
  • Nocturnal Observation: Observe the universe through telescopes, in collaboration with the ESIA Ticomán Astronomical Society and the Skyshop group. This activity is subject to weather conditions and will take place in the back garden from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a capacity of 80 people per hour.

Creative and Storytelling:

  • Galactic Face Painting: A fun and creative activity where children can get their faces painted with designs inspired by the universe. This will be in the planetarium esplanade from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a capacity of 10 participants per hour.
  • The Mystery of the Hyllela Family: Reflective stories about environmental impact. This will be presented in the planetarium esplanade at 5:30 PM, with a capacity of 80 people.
  • Stories and Legends: A puppet and juggling show on stilts, telling tales about the birth of stars and ancient Mexico. This will be in the planetarium esplanade at 7:00 PM, with a capacity of 80 people.

Special Dome Shows:

The Mobile Dome will offer special screenings throughout the event, with a capacity of 220 people per hour:

  • Solaris: Two showings, the first at 5:00 PM and the last at 7:00 PM.
  • 3,2,1 Liftoff: One showing at 6:00 PM.
  • I Am Earth: One showing at 8:00 PM.

  • Capacity: Activities have limited capacity, so plan your arrival time accordingly.
  • Transportation: The planetarium is easily accessible by Metro (Politécnico or Instituto del Petróleo stations).
