Mexico City Congress Hosts “Socio-environmental Forum CDMX 2026” to Address Environmental Crisis
Mexico City, April 24 – Yesterday, April 23, 2026, the Mexico City Congress held the “Socio-environmental Forum CDMX 2026” with the aim of finding solutions to the ongoing environmental crisis in the capital. The event brought together various capital organizations, specialists, and members of the general public to collaboratively create an environmental agenda.
During the inauguration of the forum, which took place in the “Benito Juárez” Auditorium of the local Congress, Deputy Juan Estuardo Rubio Gualito emphasized that the proposals generated by the participants would be crucial in defining the environmental agenda for the MORENA Parliamentary Group. He highlighted the objective of gathering diverse opinions and alternative solutions to the daily challenges faced by Mexico City, including atmospheric contingencies.
“We want to hear from everyone. We are joined by the Head of the Environmental and Territorial Planning Prosecutor’s Office (PAOT); the MORENA Communication Secretary; and young people interested in promoting environmental protection, conservation areas, and green spaces. We want to understand what people think about the environment to create an agenda from now until 2030,” stated Deputy Rubio Gualito.
Mónica Viétnica Alegre González, Head of the PAOT, addressed one of the significant problems in the capital: the generation of intense noise in commercial establishments, which negatively impacts the health of residents. She suggested that the development of the Mexico City General Development Plan (PGD) must incorporate public policies to address this issue.
Areli Castilla, MORENA’s Communication Secretary, asserted that environmental protection should be a non-partisan issue, as climate change-related problems affect everyone. She proposed that the construction of this environmental agenda should integrate the efforts of the Executive and Legislative Powers, as well as active citizen participation.
Representing the participating youth, Pablo Quintero acknowledged that while this demographic may not create public policies, their proposals are vital. He stressed that young people have a clear vision of the metropolis they desire, one that prioritizes environmental care.
The forum serves as a critical platform for dialogue and collaboration, aiming to translate diverse perspectives into actionable strategies to mitigate and adapt to environmental challenges in Mexico City. The insights gained from the discussions are expected to inform future legislative and policy initiatives, contributing to a more sustainable urban environment for all residents.
The event concluded with a commitment from all parties to continue working together to develop and implement effective solutions for Mexico City’s socio-environmental well-being.
