Investigations Underway into Fires at Las Anitas Recreational Center and Mobile Classroom in Ciudad Juarez
Ciudad Juarez, April 25, 2026 – The Municipal Civil Protection Directorate and the Northern Zone Prosecutor’s Office are actively investigating the causes of two significant fires that recently occurred in Ciudad Juarez. One incident involved the Las Anitas recreational center, while the other affected a mobile classroom. Authorities are working to determine the origin of these blazes, with one potentially accidental and the other strongly suspected to be intentional.
Las Anitas Recreational Center Fire: Accidental or Intentional?
The fire at the Las Anitas recreational center, located on Waterfill Avenue, broke out in the early hours of Friday. The blaze consumed parts of some waterslides and shade structures. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Initially, there were suggestions that the fire was deliberately set; however, officials are still finalizing their investigations to confirm or rule out an accidental cause.
Héctor Tovar, a representative from the investigation, stated, “Regarding the recreational center located on Waterfill Avenue, it has been indicated that investigations are currently being finalized to confirm or rule out whether the fire was accidental.” The preliminary findings from municipal and state authorities are still pending, and the area remains under scrutiny.
Mobile Classroom Fire: Suspected Arson
A separate and more concerning incident involved a mobile classroom situated at the intersection of Valle Alforza and Valle de San José, in the Parajes de San José neighborhood. Investigations into this fire strongly suggest it was intentional. The classroom belongs to a newly established primary school and is located adjacent to the classrooms of Technical Secondary School 10, according to official reports.
This marks the second time that unknown individuals have allegedly set fire to these mobile classrooms, resulting in the destruction of furniture and paperwork inside. The repeated nature of these incidents raises significant concerns about vandalism and intentional damage to educational facilities in the area.
Security Camera Footage Under Review
In both cases, authorities are reviewing security camera footage to aid in their investigations. This footage is expected to provide crucial evidence that could help identify those responsible for the fires, particularly in the case of the mobile classroom where arson is suspected. The incidents have prompted a significant mobilization of rescue teams and investigative bodies across Ciudad Juarez.
Community Impact and Ongoing Efforts
The fires have drawn attention to safety and security concerns within Ciudad Juarez. While the incident at Las Anitas did not result in injuries, the destruction of property at a recreational center impacts community leisure. The repeated targeting of an educational facility, however, has a more profound effect, disrupting learning and incurring costs for replacement and repairs.
Local authorities are urging residents to report any suspicious activities to help prevent future incidents. The ongoing investigations underscore the commitment of Civil Protection and the Prosecutor’s Office to ensuring public safety and bringing those responsible for such acts to justice.
Further updates will be provided as the investigations progress and more conclusive findings become available.
