Ciudad Juárez, April 26 – In a significant environmental initiative, the Sierra de Juárez collective, in collaboration with Boy Scouts Group 4 of Ciudad Juárez, successfully removed 118 tires from Cerro de la Lealtad this past Saturday. The cleanup effort, conducted near the Camino Real peripheral and Santos Dumont Avenue, aimed to address a long-standing issue of waste accumulation in the Sierra de Juárez.

Community Unites for Earth Day Commemoration

The activity was organized as a commemoration of Earth Day, which was celebrated on April 22. Through social media, the participating organizations emphasized that the goal was not only to raise public awareness about environmental protection but also to make a tangible impact on environmental care in the border region.

Cerro de la Lealtad was specifically chosen due to its persistent problem of being used as an illegal dumping site for tires by local residents. This practice has severely damaged the local flora and fauna, limiting their access to food, shelter, and breeding grounds.

Significant Impact of the Cleanup Operation

Approximately 20 volunteers participated in the cleanup, meticulously working to remove the discarded tires that were scattered among the vegetation. The 118 tires collected were subsequently removed from the site with the crucial assistance of personnel from the Directorate of Cleanliness and the Directorate of Public Services, ensuring their proper disposal.

Collaborative Efforts for a Cleaner Environment

This collaborative effort highlights the importance of community involvement and inter-institutional cooperation in tackling environmental challenges. The successful removal of such a large quantity of waste marks a positive step towards restoring the ecological balance of Cerro de la Lealtad and promoting a healthier environment for Ciudad Juárez residents.

Related Environmental Initiatives in Ciudad Juárez

This cleanup follows other environmental concerns and initiatives in the region:

  • Alert for Mass Event in Sierra de Juárez: The collective with the same name demands transparency in permits and impact studies for interventions in areas of high ecological value.
  • Municipal Inspections in Streams: Inspections are carried out to prevent floods during the rainy season, with a call to citizens to avoid littering.
  • Companies Donate Drums for Easter Cleanup: 50 drums were placed in El Chamizal to maintain park cleanliness during Easter celebrations.
  • Holiday for Bureaucrats, but Not for Cleanliness Workers: Despite public office closures, garbage collection proceeded as normal during Holy Week.

The continuous efforts by various groups and authorities underscore a growing commitment to environmental stewardship in Ciudad Juárez, addressing both immediate cleanup needs and broader ecological concerns.
