Homicide Reduction Fuels Economic Optimism in Ciudad Juárez
Ciudad Juárez, May 28, 2026 – The substantial reduction in intentional homicides recorded in Ciudad Juárez during the first five months of the year is creating a more favorable climate for investment, according to local hoteliers. Rogelio González Alcocer, a prominent businessman in the sector, lauded the positive trend, noting that fewer than 50 homicides have been reported so far in May. This ongoing decline is expected to attract more capital to the border city.
González Alcocer emphasized the remarkable transformation of Ciudad Juárez, which was once notoriously labeled as the most dangerous city in the world. Currently, the city ranks 17th globally in terms of security concerns. The hotelier expressed optimism that in the next assessment by the National Urban Public Security Survey (ENSU), Ciudad Juárez will exit the Top 25, a positive development he attributes to the effective coordination among all three levels of government.
Crime Rates on the Decline Across Multiple Categories
Data from the Security and Justice Roundtable indicates a consistent downward trend in several key crime categories within Ciudad Juárez. Beyond homicides, the city has seen a reduction in extortion, commercial robbery, and vehicle theft. This comprehensive improvement in public safety is a critical factor in enhancing the city’s appeal to investors and fostering a more stable economic environment.
The sustained efforts to combat crime and improve security have not only changed the perception of Ciudad Juárez internationally but are also yielding tangible economic benefits. The hotel sector, in particular, stands to gain significantly from increased investor confidence and a more secure urban landscape. The hope is that this positive momentum will continue, leading to further economic growth and development for the city and its residents.
