CIUDAD JUÁREZ, Chih. – Elements of the Municipal Public Security Secretariat (SSPM) in Ciudad Juárez secured four minors who were found without adult supervision in a home in the Torres del Sur neighborhood. The incident occurred on the night of June 8, following a citizen report to the Specialized Directorate for Family and Gender Violence (DEVIFG).
Authorities Respond to Abandonment Report
The report, received through the community number, alerted authorities to a possible situation of abandonment at a residence located at the intersection of Palacio de Monte Albán and Privada Azteca streets. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a neighbor who stated that she had observed several minors alone inside the home since the morning, with no adult present.
6-Year-Old Cared for Younger Siblings
After verifying the information, agents made contact with one of the children, a 6-year-old boy, who indicated that his parents had left early and that he was in charge of his younger siblings. According to authorities, he was also attempting to prepare food for them because they were hungry.
Given that the main door was closed and to ensure the children’s safety, officers entered the residence with the help of a ladder provided by the reporting neighbor. Inside, two boys and two girls, aged between 3 and 6 years old, were found and taken into preventive custody.
Minors Transferred to Social Services
Subsequently, the minors were transported to the Social Work Department of the Riveras District Police Station. Specialized personnel are now responsible for their care and assessment, and relevant authorities have been notified to follow up on the case.
This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by families and underscores the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable children. The swift action of both the reporting citizen and the DEVIFG officers ensured the immediate safety of the children involved.
The investigation into the parents’ absence and the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing. Authorities are expected to determine the appropriate course of action to ensure the long-term well-being of the rescued minors.
This event comes amidst other local news, including the recent activation of cooling centers in El Paso due to a heatwave and an arrest for a United Airlines flight stowaway at a Texas airport, demonstrating a busy period for regional law enforcement and community services.
