Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, June 12, 2026 – Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar of Ciudad Juárez today highlighted the favorable results of ongoing security operations, including raids, patrols, and permanent surveillance. He affirmed the city’s commitment to maintaining prevention and anti-crime strategies without lowering its guard.
Security Efforts Yield Positive Results
The mayor’s remarks followed a meeting of the Coordination Table for the Preservation of Peace, which he chaired at the Emergency and Immediate Response Center (CERI). Representatives from various security institutions presented their actions aimed at reducing crime rates.
Pérez Cuéllar noted that the past week saw a relatively low incidence of crime. Comparing June 2026 with the same period in 2025, he indicated a downward trend in criminal activity.
Leadership Transition at Security Meetings
During the meeting, Mayor Pérez Cuéllar introduced Héctor Rafael Ortiz Orpinel, the Secretary of the City Council, as his temporary replacement for future Coordination Table meetings. This comes as the mayor is set to present a request to the City Council next Wednesday for a leave of absence from his position.
Detailed Security and Emergency Reports
César Omar Muñoz Morales, Secretary of Municipal Public Security, reported that the corporation apprehended 171 individuals for common law offenses and an additional seven for federal offenses. Authorities also seized six handguns, 22 live cartridges, and five magazines. In efforts against drug-related crimes, 55 individuals were arrested, and 110 doses of various types of drugs were confiscated.
Regarding vehicle theft, 14 individuals were detained in connection with stolen vehicles. Furthermore, 12 vehicles with active theft reports were recovered, along with one vehicle displaying fraudulent license plates.
Emergency Services and Civil Justice Statistics
Sergio Rodríguez, Director of Civil Protection, stated that the Fire Department responded to 257 calls for service during the last week. These included 51 fires, two road accidents, one explosion, three short circuits, 26 gas or liquid leaks, four animal rescues, two drills, one meteorological event, five alarm activations, and 162 support and supervision services.
The Rescue Department handled 105 services, assisting 25 sick individuals, 43 injured persons, two cases of intoxication, two suicide attempts, six patient transfers, one fatality, three events, six alarm activations, and 17 support and supervision services.
Jorge Salomé Bissuet Galarza, Director of Civic Justice, reported that 270 hearings were conducted during the period. These included 107 at the Riberas Station, 77 at the Municipal Center for Social Integration and Administrative Sanctions, 28 at the Civic Court, and 58 in the Central District.
Traffic Violations and Road Safety
The General Coordination of Road Safety reported that the most frequent infractions observed were exceeding speed limits, failing to obey stop signs, running red lights, and using mobile phones while driving.
Inter-Agency Collaboration and Future Outlook
The meeting also saw the participation of Elvira Urrutia Castro, Director General of the Municipal Institute for Women, along with representatives from the State Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, the Secretariat of National Defense, and the State Human Rights Commission.
