Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua – Heavy rains over the past 24 hours have caused widespread damage and disruption in Ciudad Juárez and other municipalities across the state of Chihuahua, as reported by the State Civil Protection Coordination (CEPC) in its latest incident report.
Extensive Damage Across Ciudad Juárez
In Ciudad Juárez, emergency services responded to numerous incidents, including four reports of fallen trees, eleven cases of flooding, the detachment of a billboard sheet, two downed utility poles, and five short circuits. More critically, there were reports of a person, a vehicle, and a stranded car being swept away by strong currents, highlighting the severity of the flash floods.
Among the most significant events was the rescue of a six-year-old child found in a home with roof damage in the Hidalgo neighborhood. The minor was safely secured by authorities and referred to Social Services for further assistance. Other affected neighborhoods include Jardines del Lago, Lucio Cabañas, Santa Rosa, Reginaldo Kluche, Nuevo Milenio, Fernández, and El Chamizal, all experiencing varying degrees of damage from the torrential downpour.
Incidents Reported Across Chihuahua State
The CEPC also confirmed that incidents related to the rainfall were recorded on June 14 in the municipalities of Chihuahua, Manuel Benavides, Camargo, and Meoqui. During the early hours of June 15, between 00:00 and 03:00, Ciudad Juárez reported three short circuits, two floods, and one stranded vehicle. Concurrently, Jiménez registered two floods and one short circuit, indicating a broader impact across the region.
Rainfall accumulation data showed Jiménez with the highest registration at 56 millimeters, followed by Cuauhtémoc with 31 mm, Camargo with 28 mm, Palomas with 16.8 mm, and Parral with 15.4 mm. These figures underscore the intensity and widespread nature of the recent weather system.
Continued Rainfall Expected
For Monday, the CEPC forecasts continued rainfall across a large part of the state due to an unseasonal frontal system positioned over the northern border. Moderate to heavy precipitation is anticipated in the Sierra Tarahumara, while the rest of the entity can expect scattered to moderate showers, possibly accompanied by electrical activity, hail, and wind gusts exceeding 45 kilometers per hour.
Authorities urge residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding, and to follow official advisories from Civil Protection. The ongoing weather conditions pose a risk to infrastructure and public safety, necessitating continued monitoring and rapid response from emergency services.
