Mexico City Opens Support Center for Venezuelans After Devastating Earthquakes

Mexico City, June 25, 2026 – In response to the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on Tuesday, June 24, 2026, the civil organization Casa Refugiados has opened a support center in Mexico City for the Venezuelan community. The earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, have tragically resulted in 188 fatalities and 1,520 injured, leading Venezuela to declare a state of emergency.

“La Casita del Telar Solidario”: A Beacon of Hope

The newly established center, named “La Casita del Telar Solidario,” aims to provide a communal and secure environment for Venezuelans in Mexico City to connect with their loved ones and find support during this challenging time. The services offered are entirely free and include:

  • Internet access: To facilitate communication and information gathering.
  • Assistance with calls and video calls: Helping individuals reach out to family members in Venezuela.
  • A safe space for accompaniment: Offering emotional support and a community environment as individuals attempt to contact their relatives.

This initiative, backed by Casa Refugiados, Abriendo Puertas, and La Casita del Telar Solidario, is located within the Ramón López Velarde Garden, adjacent to the Roma Sur neighborhood. The nearest public transport hub is Centro Médico station for both Metro and Metrobús. For those traveling by car, Toluca street serves as the closest access point. The facility is easily identifiable by its large windows and a distinctive green mural with a nature theme on its exterior, situated behind the Pabellón Cuauhtémoc shopping center and across the avenue from the National Medical Center Siglo XXI.

International Aid and Rescue Efforts Underway

Infobae Mexico confirmed with Casa Refugiados staff that while they are not currently accepting material donations, discussions are underway to establish logistics for sending humanitarian aid to Venezuela. The immediate need in the affected areas is for expert personnel to assist in search and rescue operations. Gustavo Duque Sáez, Mayor of Chacao, emphasized to Multimedios the critical need for specialized human resources to locate individuals trapped under rubble.

Following an appeal for international assistance from Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, Mexico has pledged significant support. The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) will deploy 250 personnel, 5 canine units, 4 aircraft, a drone, and essential search and rescue tools, along with medical supplies. Additionally, the renowned Mexican rescue brigade “Los Topos” (The Moles) will travel to Venezuela to join the emergency efforts.

This concerted effort highlights the solidarity and rapid response from the international community to aid Venezuela in the aftermath of these devastating natural disasters, with Mexico City playing a crucial role in supporting the Venezuelan diaspora.
