Civil Protection Issues Alert for Large Dust Cloud Approaching Ciudad Juarez

Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, June 25 – The Municipal Civil Protection Coordination issued a preventive meteorological advisory on Thursday afternoon, June 25, after detecting a mass of dust and low-density cloudiness moving from the United States towards the border region. The phenomenon was initially located approximately 24 kilometers west of Santa Teresa, advancing eastward.

According to the official report from the agency, issued at 6:34 p.m., the dust was expected to begin entering the urban area mainly after 7:00 p.m., with the Santa Teresa area identified as the primary entry point.

Expected Environmental Impacts

The municipal corporation indicated that the passage of this dust cloud could generate the following environmental conditions in the city:

  • Visibility: Temporary reduction of visibility on various roads.
  • Air Quality: Noticeable presence of suspended dust in the environment.
  • Wind: Variations in wind speed, with the probability of light to moderate gusts.

Possibility of Light Rains

Civil Protection also reported that low-density cloudiness is moving along the same trajectory. Projections indicate that, if it does not dissipate en route, this formation will primarily pass over the northern part of the city. Should precipitation occur in conjunction with this system, it is expected to be mostly light to moderate.

Given this outlook, citizens, especially motorists traveling on the northern and western roads of the city, are urged to take extreme precautions, turn on their lights, and maintain a safe distance due to potential loss of visibility.
