SSPE Detains Alleged Criminal Group Member in Ciudad Juárez: Three Firearms and Drugs Seized
Ciudad Juárez, June 28, 2026 – The State Public Security Secretariat (SSPE) announced the arrest of an alleged member of a criminal group in Ciudad Juárez. The operation, conducted by elements of the General Directorate of Specialized Investigation in Priority Crimes, resulted in the seizure of three short firearms, approximately 386 grams of marijuana, and a vehicle. The detained individual is reportedly linked to investigations concerning homicides, kidnapping, and other criminal acts in the city.
Vigilance Leads to Arrest in Benito Juárez Neighborhood
The arrest took place on June 27, 2026, at the intersection of Benemérito de las Américas and Plutarco Elías Calles avenues, in the Benito Juárez neighborhood. Operational personnel observed a vehicle with Texas license plates whose driver exhibited evasive behavior upon noticing the police presence. This prompted a preventive inspection in accordance with established protocols.
During the vehicle search, agents discovered three short firearms hidden under the back seat. Additionally, a bag containing approximately 386 grams of a substance consistent with marijuana was found.
Suspect Identified and Charged
The arrested individual has been identified as Arturo Elías M.C., 39 years old. He faces charges for his probable responsibility in violations of the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives and crimes against health. The seized items include:
- One 9mm caliber pistol
- One .45 Auto caliber pistol
- One 9mm caliber pistol with no visible brand
- All pistols with their respective magazines
- The vehicle used for transport
- The narcotics
Links to High-Impact Crimes
Intelligence and investigation efforts by the SSPE indicate that the detainee is connected to several high-impact crimes reported in Ciudad Juárez. These include the homicide of an active Penitentiary Security agent in June 2024, another homicide in May 2026, and an investigation into a kidnapping that occurred in the same month.
The detainee, along with the weapons, drugs, and vehicle, has been placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR). The FGR will continue the corresponding investigations and determine the legal status of the accused.
