Mexico City, July 13, 2026 – The new Utopía Acatitla in Mexico City has officially opened, with Head of Government Clara Brugada inaugurating the facility. This new center aims to provide thousands of people with free access to cultural, sports, educational activities, and a range of services.
A Transformation from Abandonment to Opportunity
During the inauguration event, Brugada emphasized the transformative nature of the project. “We want that when Acatitla is mentioned, people no longer think of prisons or walls, but of horizons; that when Acatitla is spoken of, people think of freedoms, rights, and one of the most important Utopías in Mexico City,” she stated.
The Head of Government explained that the site where Utopía Acatitla now stands had been abandoned for years. Its recovery, she noted, demonstrates how a deteriorated space can be transformed into infrastructure that guarantees fundamental rights for the community.
Comprehensive Facilities for All Ages
Utopía Acatitla is one of five new centers inaugurated during Clara Brugada’s administration. It boasts a wide array of facilities designed to cater to diverse interests and needs:
- Semi-Olympic swimming pool
- Pump track
- Climbing wall
- Parkour area
- Running track
- Emotional Care Center
- Hummingbird Center
- Community dining room
- Laundry services
Additionally, users can participate in workshops covering music, dance, theater, and various sports disciplines. A standout attraction is the Magical Fluorescent Night Garden, an immersive experience spanning over three thousand square meters, designed for families to enjoy.
Free and Accessible Health Services
Clara Brugada highlighted that the new Utopía in Mexico City integrates comprehensive health services, making essential care accessible to the community. These services include:
- General medicine
- Dentistry
- Clinical laboratory
- Mammography
- Gynecological care
- Free psychological care
- Addiction prevention and treatment
Extended Hours to Serve Working Residents
Recognizing the needs of the working population in the eastern part of the city, Utopía Acatitla will extend its operating hours until 11:00 PM. This initiative ensures that individuals returning late from work can also access its services.
“This is what is different about living in the peripheries: understanding what the population that lives far away needs. The objective is to give the best service to those who have the least,” Brugada underscored.
With its swimming pool, climbing wall, magical garden, cultural workshops, and free medical services, Utopía Acatitla CDMX joins a network of spaces promoted by the capital’s government. These centers aim to bring sports, recreational, and wellness activities closer to the residents of Iztapalapa and other eastern areas of the city.
