Mexico City, July 17 – Authorities in Mexico City have located a highly decomposed body inside an abandoned vehicle near the Canal del Norte Metro station, in the Venustiano Carranza borough. The discovery, which occurred on the morning of July 10, 2026, has prompted an investigation by the Attorney General’s Office.

Neighbors Alert Authorities to Foul Odor

The grim discovery was made after residents of Venustiano Carranza alerted security forces to the presence of a vehicle that had been abandoned for several days near the Metro Canal del Norte station. The neighbors reported a strong, fetid odor emanating from the parked car, prompting their call to authorities.

Upon arrival, personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) confirmed the presence of a lifeless body inside the vehicle. The body showed evident signs of advanced decomposition, indicating it had been there for some time.

Attorney General’s Office Initiates Investigation

The Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJ-CDMX) was notified of the incident and dispatched criminalistics experts to conduct the corresponding investigations. The area where the vehicle was found was cordoned off by SSC elements to preserve the scene and facilitate the work of the experts.

As of now, authorities have not released the identity of the victim nor the possible cause of death. It is expected that the results of the autopsy will provide crucial information for the advancement of the investigation. The police presence generated expectation among passers-by and users of the Metro Canal del Norte, although the transport service operated normally during the operation.
