Bodega Aurrera and Walmart in Ciudad Juarez Comply with PACIC Program

Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico – July 27, 2026 – The Federal Consumer Prosecutor’s Office (Profeco) has announced that Bodega Aurrera 2224 and Walmart branches in Ciudad Juarez are successfully adhering to the price limits for the basic food basket, keeping them below the 910 pesos threshold established by the Anti-Inflation and Scarcity Package (PACIC).

During the presentation of the “Who is Who in Prices” program, Profeco’s head, César Iván Escalante Ruiz, highlighted that both establishments are fulfilling the voluntary agreement signed between the federal government and commercial chains.

Monitoring Reveals Competitive Pricing

A monitoring period conducted from July 13 to July 17 showed that Bodega Aurrera 2224 offered the lowest price in the city for the basic food basket, at 801 pesos. Walmart followed closely, presenting the same basket for 851.50 pesos. Both prices are comfortably below the 910 pesos target set by the PACIC initiative.

Escalante Ruiz commended both stores for their commitment to the PACIC program, acknowledging their efforts to stabilize prices for the 24 essential products included in the basic food basket. This compliance is crucial in the ongoing fight against inflation and scarcity.

National Context of Basic Basket Prices

On a national level, Profeco noted that the lowest recorded price for the basic food basket was 736.50 pesos, found at a Bodega Aurrera Las Fuentes branch in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Conversely, the highest price observed was 912.50 pesos at a Walmart store in Hermosillo, Sonora. These figures provide a broader perspective on the varying costs of essential goods across different regions.

Impact on Ciudad Juarez Consumers

For the residents of Ciudad Juarez, the adherence of these major retailers to the PACIC guidelines translates into tangible benefits, ensuring access to essential goods at more affordable prices. This initiative aims to alleviate the economic burden on families by curbing inflationary pressures on everyday necessities.

The continued monitoring by Profeco and the cooperation of retail chains like Bodega Aurrera and Walmart are vital in sustaining the effectiveness of the PACIC program. This collaborative effort underscores the commitment to consumer protection and economic stability in Mexico.

Profeco’s rigorous oversight ensures transparency and accountability in pricing, empowering consumers with information and fostering a more equitable marketplace. The positive results observed in Ciudad Juarez serve as an encouraging example of successful implementation of national economic strategies at the local level.

The program “Who is Who in Prices” empowers consumers by providing clear data on pricing trends, allowing them to make informed purchasing decisions and encouraging competitive practices among retailers. This transparency is a cornerstone of the PACIC’s strategy to combat inflation effectively.

The report from Profeco reaffirms the importance of collaborative initiatives between government bodies and the private sector to address economic challenges. By working together, they can achieve significant progress in protecting consumer purchasing power and promoting a stable economic environment for all citizens.
