Perception of Safety Improves in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua Capital, SSPE Reports
Ciudad Juárez, August 3, 2026 – The perception of safety has notably improved in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua capital, as reported by the State Secretariat of Public Security (SSPE). Ciudad Juárez has moved to the 42nd position out of 91 cities evaluated for insecurity perception, marking a significant step forward in public safety.
Recent Achievements in Public Safety
This positive development follows a series of successful initiatives and operations by local and state authorities. The SSPE highlighted several key achievements contributing to this improved perception:
- Reduction in Homicides: Ciudad Juárez has seen a 20% reduction in homicides during the current administration, demonstrating the effectiveness of ongoing security strategies.
- Combating Hydrocarbon Theft: The SSPE presented results of successful raids targeting hydrocarbon theft in Ciudad Juárez, indicating a strong stance against organized crime. The FGR continues vigilance in areas linked to ‘huachicol’ seizures.
- Community Programs: Programs like “Juárez Amanece Limpio” have reached 60 neighborhoods and aim to intervene in 100 this year. This initiative, led by Mayor Héctor Rafael Ortiz Orpinel, has removed thousands of tons of waste, debris, and tires, contributing to a cleaner and safer urban environment.

- New Sports Facilities: Four new soccer fields from the “Mundial Social” program are being delivered in Ciudad Juárez. These fields, located in Horizontes del Sur, Sierra Vista, Oasis Revolución, and Fidel Velázquez, represent an investment of 1.8 million pesos per field, fostering community development and providing safe recreational spaces.

- Barredora Contract Defense: Mayor Marco Bonilla defended the barredora (street sweeper) contract, denying irregularities and asserting that the contracting was done according to the law. He stated that the municipality lacked the financial capacity to acquire the machinery in 2022.
