Mexico City, August 12 – The Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada, announced yesterday, Tuesday, August 11, the construction of a new ‘Utopia’ facility in the Plaza Merced 2000. This project will transform a currently abandoned 17,000-square-meter plot into a vibrant community hub, designed to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to serve the needs of local workers and residents.
The announcement was made during a tour of the Merced 2000 area, accompanied by Evelyn Parra, the mayor of Venustiano Carranza. Brugada emphasized that the new ‘Utopia’ will be a cornerstone for community development, offering a range of services including cultural activities, sports facilities, and a comprehensive care system.

The 24/7 operating model is a key feature of this initiative, specifically tailored to accommodate the schedules of local merchants and workers. “We are going to convert a utopia in the heart of La Merced,” stated Brugada, highlighting the project’s aim to provide accessible resources at times most convenient for the community.

She also acknowledged the previous rehabilitation work on the electrical network of the Nave Menor de la Merced, a critical annex to the main market building.
