Mexico City, August 11 – The CAOSTICA MX International Short Film and Music Video Festival is set to bring its 24th edition to Mexico City. From August 25 to 28, the renowned Basque festival will host screenings and events across various venues, including Cine Tonalá, Jardín Juárez, and the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico.
Macabrostica: Special Screenings and Encounters
As part of the 25th edition of the Macabro Festival, the collaborative ‘Macabrostica’ events will take place from August 14 to 19. This partnership between the two festivals promises a series of unique cinematic experiences.
The activities will commence on August 14 at the Cineteca Nacional de las Artes with an encounter titled “Mythology, Sword, and Witchcraft in Fantastic Cinema” featuring filmmaker Paul Urkijo. This will be followed by a special screening of seven of his short films. On August 19, the Film Faculty will host “Dressing the Fantastic” with costume designer Nerea Torrijos. The Cineteca Nacional de México will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of Narciso Ibáñez Serrador’s film Who Can Kill a Child? with a special screening.
Official Selection of CAOSTICA 24
Between August 25 and 27, Cine Tonalá will showcase projects from 13 different countries, divided into seven short film programs. Out of the 49 short films selected for the Official and Bizarre Sections, four are Mexican productions:
- Unidad y movimiento, by Maldita Vecindad
- El amor te hiere como el rayo, by Fakir & Los Psíquicos
- Mi corset, by Carrion Kids
- ¡Abre las piernas!, by Águeda V. Flores (co-produced with Spain and Switzerland)
Closing Ceremony and Awards
The festival will conclude with a free concert by Carrion Kids and a DJ set by Miki Navajas at Jardín Juárez on August 27, where the awards ceremony will also take place. The following day, the Cultural Center of Spain in Mexico will screen the winning short films from CAOSTICA 24 and CAOSTICA MX.
