Fifth Chile en Nogada Festival Arrives in Mexico City’s Historic Center
Mexico City, September 5, 2026 – The Historic Center of Mexico City is currently immersed in traditional flavors with the celebration of the Fifth Chile en Nogada Festival. This culinary event, which began on September 3rd and will continue until September 26th, 2026, features gastronomic proposals distributed across various points of the capital’s main square.
Organized by the Historic Center Authority, this fifth edition aims to promote Mexican gastronomy while strengthening the economic activity of local establishments. A total of 60 participants are involved, including restaurants, cafes, fondas, hotels, and kitchens located in public markets such as 2 de Abril, Abelardo Rodríguez, San Juan, and San Juan Artesanías.
A Culinary Showcase of Tradition and Innovation
Attendees can explore a wide array of chile en nogada interpretations, ranging from traditional preparations to innovative versions with different fillings and ingredients. This year’s festival reportedly includes preparations with pork, chicken, lamb, and even duck. Beyond the main dish, visitors can also find products inspired by the flavors of nogada, such as beverages and desserts.
The festival’s inauguration took place at the Claustro de Sor Juana, where the gastronomic offerings for this edition were presented. This initiative not only celebrates one of Mexico’s most representative dishes but also seeks to generate increased commercial activity for participating businesses, thereby boosting the economy of the Historic Center.
Digital Map and Over 50 Recipes Available
To enhance the visitor experience, the Historic Center Authority has launched a digital map. This map pinpoints the locations of all participating establishments, allowing residents and tourists to discover the diverse culinary options and plan their own gastronomic routes. This tool facilitates exploration and ensures that no culinary gem is missed during the festival.
Furthermore, the festival offers a digital recipe book, a collaborative effort with students from the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana. This comprehensive collection features over 50 preparations related to chile en nogada and nogada itself. The recipes extend beyond different ways to prepare the main dish, including innovative suggestions for ice creams, aguas frescas, cakes, and other desserts inspired by the unique flavors of this iconic Mexican delicacy.
Public Participation and Recognition
The Fifth Chile en Nogada Festival will conclude on September 26, 2026. On this final day, the best participating preparations will be recognized. The public will play a significant role in selecting the outstanding dishes, with the top three entries receiving special recognition for their gastronomic proposals. This participatory element encourages engagement and allows attendees to have a direct impact on celebrating culinary excellence.
Throughout September, Mexico City’s Historic Center transforms into a vibrant gastronomic route dedicated to chile en nogada. This event successfully combines the promotion of Mexican cuisine with tourism and the vital support of local commerce, offering a rich cultural and culinary experience for all.
