Ciudad Juárez, September 16 – Central Park in Ciudad Juárez is undergoing a vibrant transformation with the ‘Art in your Park’ project, which involves local artists and 35 students in the creation of four new murals. One mural is already finished, with the remaining three currently in progress, promising to fill the park’s walls with color and offer a fresh experience for visitors to the city’s green heart.
‘Art in your Park’: A collaborative effort
Rafael Butchart, General Coordinator of Central Park, explained that the project was made possible through the sponsorship of Grupo Berel, which donated the paints. This initiative allows Juárez artists to bring their creative visions to life.
“The importance of Central Park is not only because sports and coexistence activities are carried out here, which benefit the citizens of the heart of Ciudad Juárez, but also because it is consolidating itself as a quarry for border talent in these aspects, so that they can develop their talent,” Butchart stated.
He emphasized that the ‘Art in your Park’ project will enhance the environment for Central Park visitors, who will also have the opportunity to appreciate the immense talent of local artists. Butchart encouraged all Juárez residents to visit the park and take photographs with the first completed mural, which is part of the ongoing renovation of this vital green space.
A mural reflecting the city’s essence through children’s eyes
In an interview with Norte Digital, Adrián Flores, a Drawing and Painting workshop instructor at Central Park’s community center, highlighted his involvement in this project, as well as previous ones like the Civic Wall painted on the exterior fence of the Faculty of Political Sciences at the Autonomous University of Chihuahua (UACH). Flores noted that he has collaborated with his students, a group of approximately 35 children, young people, and adults, on this endeavor.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity, as well as for the support of the children’s parents. Each child has expressed their own vision, what they want to leave behind; the point is that it is a collage that represents us all, and tomorrow, when these children pass by here, they will be able to share the anecdotes of what they experienced painting this mural in the heart of Juárez,” Flores affirmed.
Flores explained that the center of the first mural features the letters of Juárez, surrounded by a landscape composed of representative monuments of the city. “Thinking that it is a mural that will last a long time, we want to reflect this era, taking into account the children and capturing their characters, their interests, and their favorite games in it,” the workshop instructor shared.
He added that each group of artists has its own project and style, and the murals are being created with acrylic paint. They have been working on these pieces, which will beautify the heart of Juárez, for a month.
“The attractive thing about this mural is that it is a reading mural. I like that the kids pass by and say: ‘That character is so-and-so.’ It has many readings; it is not an image that you digest at first glance, there are many messages that can be read,” Flores concluded.
Central Park: A hub of activity and renewal
