According to reports from the Gustavo A. Madero borough, 14 dogs died in the fire, while one was successfully rescued without apparent injuries. The preliminary version from neighbors suggests that a firework, launched during the national festivities, may have fallen onto the property and ignited flammable materials, leading to the inferno.
“A house burned down completely on the first level, we rescued one uninjured dog; we proceeded to extinguish the fire. No injuries,” reported the Heroic Fire Department of Mexico City.
The fire department’s official report confirmed no human injuries but did not specify the number of deceased animals or the cause of the fire. However, eyewitness accounts from residents in the area strongly point to a firework as the likely trigger.
Family Absent, Neighbors Point to Firework
The fire spread rapidly across the first level of the property while its occupants were away. Inside, 15 companion dogs were present, as reported in the early hours of September 16.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, which had practically consumed the entire first floor of the house. During their inspection of the premises, they located the sole surviving dog, who was subsequently handed over for veterinary evaluation.
