Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, June 23, 2026 – The State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) in Chihuahua announced on Tuesday that 251 of the 386 bodies recovered from the Plenitud Crematorium in Ciudad Juárez have been successfully identified. This leaves approximately 35 percent of the bodies yet to be identified as the investigation continues into the facility’s operations.

Ongoing Identification Efforts at Crematorio Plenitud

The identification process has been a meticulous and challenging task for forensic experts. The FGE has been working tirelessly to provide closure to families who have been searching for their loved ones. The recovery of such a large number of unidentified remains from a single facility has raised significant concerns within the community and prompted a thorough investigation into the crematorium’s practices.

Previous Updates and Legal Proceedings

This latest update follows previous reports on the situation. Earlier, the FGE had identified 214 individuals among the remains. The case has also seen legal developments, with the Fiscalía awaiting a hearing to reactivate legal proceedings against the owner of the Plenitud Crematorium. Furthermore, the Fiscalía had planned to appeal the release of the crematorium’s owner, indicating the complexity and gravity of the legal battle surrounding this incident.

Community Impact and Broader Implications

The discovery and subsequent identification process have had a profound impact on the local community in Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua. Many families have been awaiting news of their missing relatives, and the ongoing efforts by the FGE are crucial in bringing answers to those affected. The incident has also highlighted the need for stricter oversight and regulations within the funeral and cremation industry to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Authorities have not yet released specific details regarding the circumstances that led to such a large number of unidentified bodies at the crematorium. However, the continued efforts of the State Attorney General’s Office are focused on ensuring that all remains are identified and that justice is served for the victims and their families.

The investigation is ongoing, and further updates are expected as the FGE continues its work to identify the remaining bodies and pursue legal action against those responsible.
