Mexico City Sees 57 Arrests in Major Anti-Crime Operation
Mexico City, February 4 – A significant operation targeting high-impact crimes in Mexico City’s Cuauhtémoc and Miguel Hidalgo boroughs has led to the arrest of 57 individuals and the seizure of numerous illicit items. The actions, carried out by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) and the National Guard (GN), took place between January 27 and February 1, 2026.
Extensive Deployment and Seizures
More than 300 officers participated in the operation, which included raids, seizures, and inspections across various points in the capital. Official data from the SSC indicates that 586 motorcycles were impounded, and 622 doses of suspected narcotics were secured between January 27 and January 30.
The operation, dubbed “Prevention, Deterrence, and Proximity,” focused on neighborhoods within the Cuauhtémoc borough (Centro, Juárez, Tabacalera, Obrera, Doctores, Tlatelolco, Asturias, Roma Sur y Norte, San Rafael, Buenavista, Morelos, and Guerrero) and Miguel Hidalgo borough (Tlaxpana and Argentina Poniente). Authorities deployed 340 police officers and 71 official units. Inspections were conducted on 1,594 motorcycles and 711 vehicles, resulting in 576 infractions and the impoundment of 586 motorcycles.
In addition to the narcotics, 150 tons of auto parts and various other items linked to illicit activities were seized.
Arrests and Criminal Backgrounds
Of the 57 individuals arrested for various offenses, 12 have prior criminal records within the Mexico City Penitentiary System. Their past offenses include robbery, domestic violence, and drug possession. Authorities also highlighted the capture of three Colombian nationals implicated in a home robbery in the Chapultepec area.
Key Raids and Confiscations
Several search warrants were executed during the operation. In a hotel in the Ex Hipódromo de Peralvillo neighborhood, agents secured 150 tons of auto parts. Another raid in the Doctores neighborhood led to the confiscation of a license plate, a car door, and bank statements.
In Tlaxpana, police arrested three individuals and seized 94 doses of marijuana, one kilogram of bulk marijuana, 100 doses of suspected rock cocaine, a firearm, a magazine, and live cartridges. Another property in the same neighborhood yielded license plates, motorcycles, taxis, and a vehicle.
Disposition of Seized Items and Detainees
The SSC and federal authorities confiscated motorcycles, firearms, replica weapons, bicycles, bladed weapons, auto parts, cell phones, and cash. Traffic Control Undersecretariat personnel conducted thorough inspections and issued citations for traffic violations.
All seized evidence and detained individuals have been handed over to the Public Ministry to determine their legal status, as confirmed by SSC spokespersons.
The Secretariat of Citizen Security reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining coordination with federal and local entities to combat impunity and enhance security in the Mexican capital.
